If you had told me I could start a blog and make an income from it a few years ago I would hardly have believed you.
And yet, here I am just a little over two years since starting my blog and it is generating a nice income every month. Enough to keep it afloat and more.
The benefits of blogging have been vast for both myself and my family.
Here’s a little bit about me just to give you some context:
I came straight out of high school and into nursing college. I was 21 when I graduated and landed my first job.
A year after, I married my husband and relocated to his home town. Before I could get another job I fell pregnant with our son.
Just 18-months after he was born, our second child entered the scene and I found myself in the throws of postpartum depression.
Life was wonderful, but I was struggling. Really, really struggling.
At the time I had been uploading videos to my Youtube channel on a regular basis and was looking into blogging as an offshoot of that.
What ended up happening was that my Youtube channel went dormant and my blog took off!
It was just a few months before I found myself in another place entirely.
No longer drowning in a pit of depression and no longer feeling entirely overwhelmed.
Starting a blog set me on a journey that I hadn’t even dreamed of!
Am I making millions? Nope – maybe one day. 😉
I am, however, making a decent part-time income (and working to increase that to full-time!) while being able to stay at home with my children.

Can You Also Start a Blog and Make Money from it?
I don’t say that to mean that anyone who starts a blog will make money, but that if you put in the hard work the likelihood of making money is fairly decent.
When I started I didn’t know if making money was a sure thing but I was determined to work at it.
I have been entirely surprised by the income that it is now generating and my new goal is to replace my husband’s income.
Blogging isn’t a get rich scheme. It isn’t a scheme at all.
Starting a blog is just like starting a business from scratch, but it is unique in that there are very few start-up costs and the ones that do exist are very affordable.
If you’re looking for a way to make money from home and are determined to make it happen, then why not give blogging a go?
I love it even after working hard on it for the past two years. In fact, I love it even more now than I did back then.

Blogging is Not For Everyone
While blogging has been amazing for me and my family, it won’t suit everyone and that’s okay.
However, if you’re interested then it is well worth looking into.
I wake up everyday excited to work and grateful for the opportunity to be able to be at home with my children.

What Do Bloggers Do?
As someone entirely new to blogging you may be wondering exactly what it is that bloggers do.
Blogging isn’t what it was 10 years ago.
The blogs that make money aren’t online journals that record every detail of a person’s life.
Successful blogs provide users with valuable content. Answers to their questions and solutions to their problems.
Every bloggers task list will look a little different but here are several of the main things that I do to keep my blog going:
- Write (this is kind of obvious)
- Graphic design – editing images, creating blog graphics, pin images, etc. (the level to which you delve into this will differ greatly from person to person)
- Marketing (Pinterest, social media, email)
- Learning – every single day I learn something new and I personally think it is one of the best parts of blogging!
Those are just four very basic aspects of blogging. There are lots of other things that are involved, but I would say those are the foundation blocks.
