This is my 6 week pregnancy update, and let me tell you, everything got a little more real this week!
6 Week Pregnancy Update: Overview
Last week I was feeling pregnant, but this week things got more intense.
Nausea and fatigue. They have both started and I feel awful.
Nausea started at the beginning of the week and just built up as the days went on.
It was a busy week and we’re heading out of town, so this update is a little hurried but I wanted to get it recorded nonetheless.
Major Symptoms:
Fatigue
My new bedtime is between 8:30-9 pm. I’m just exhausted by that stage and so uncomfortable that I want to just go to sleep.
Unfortunately, I’ve also been struggling to fall asleep.
I’m not sure if it is that my mind is preoccupied or if the increase/change in hormones is causing some insomnia.
Whichever it is, I’m really frustrated.
Breast Tenderness
Still sore, not quite as terrible, but not great either.
Congestion
It could just be hayfever, but I do also get fairly congested during pregnancy.
I’ve really noticed it this week.
Nausea
Allllllll day! I’ve never been the type to wake up with morning sickness, but this pregnancy is different.
The biggest issue I’m having is that literally, nothing sounds appetizing.
I’m hungry and thirsty but I just don’t want to eat or drink anything. I’ve managed to tolerate water by putting a bit of lemon juice in it, but it still isn’t great.
I have maybe half-an-hour during the day where I don’t feel sick to my stomach, but for the rest of the time, I feel terrible.
I’m also pretty sad because even tea tastes bad and that is usually my ‘fix all’ for everything.
Generally, I can ease nausea by lying down, but that obviously isn’t practical with two other children to care for.
I would say that it is at its worst in the morning and it lasts until around mid-afternoon when I get a bit of a reprieve.
I think those are all the major symptoms I need to include in this 6 week pregnancy update.
There could have been more, but gosh my memory is slack!
Minor Symptoms:
Bloating
It isn’t major, but it is there and makes life a little uncomfortable.
Reflux
I had terrible reflux throughout a lot of my pregnancies with Jack and Annie. With Annie, it started very early, and apparently, the same thing is happening this time.
I put it down to hormones because we all know the baby isn’t big enough to cause any space issues just yet. It has only happened a couple of nights, but it is a reminder of what is to come.
Ligament Pain
Call me ignorant, because this IS my third pregnancy, but I had no idea that ligament pain could start so early on.
I guess those hormones are doing their job and loosening everything up. It happens here and there when I get up from sitting or lying down. Ouch!
Low Mood
I experienced some postpartum depression after the birth of my second child.
One morning this week I woke up and felt very similar to how I felt back then. It just made me very aware of the signs to look out for and to seek help early if I am concerned about depression.
Extras
We did share the news with our family this weekend and that was really fun.
We’re not planning on telling anyone else until I’m a bit further along.
Based off my symptoms thus far, I’m guessing that I’m carrying a girl.
This pregnancy has been like an exaggerated version of my one with Annie but not so much like when I was carrying Jack.
That’s it for my 6 week pregnancy update.
